Thiruvarppu Krishna Temple, Kottayam, Kerala. Sri Thiruvarppu Srikrishna Swamy Temple is a famous temple located on the banks of Kaivari of Meenachilar in Tiruvarp village in Kottayam taluk of Kottayam district. Apart from the main deity of this temple we can also find sub-deities such as Ganapati , Shiva , Bhagavati (Durga) , Shasta , Subrahmanya and Naga Deva.

This temple Opens at 2 AM and ends at 1 PM.

Again, the temple opens between 5 PM to 7.45 PM. The gate closes at 8 PM

Lord Krishna’s birthday (Jayanti) is celebrated very grandly.

The origin of the temple which is over 1500 years old, and it is related to Mahabharata. The idea is that the idol given to the Pandavas to be worshiped by the Lord himself during their exile in the forest, the Pandavas, who returned after the exile, washed it in the ocean in the inexhaustible vessel given to Draupadi by the Lord.

Once the boat of Sanyasi Shrestha, who was on this way, left when it reached a part of the sea, and the attendants who dived to find a reason for the boat to stop, got this Vishnu idol with four arms in a uruli (Akshaya potra), Sanyasi Shrestha traveled through the hill, Pallikkara and reached the area where the temple is now located. There is a legend that it was consecrated with Uruli.

Tiruvarp Temple is the first temple to be opened in India. As per legend, after Kamsavadha, Krishna was extremely hungry and angry and his mother Yashodha appeased his hunger by giving him Ushapayasam.

The temple is not closed for solar eclipse.

All temples will be closed during the eclipse. But the eclipse will not interfere with the pujas at the Tiruvarp temple. Special pujas are held here during eclipses. At the same time, the outer tower doors will not be opened during the eclipse.
