Sindoor Tritiya 2025

Sindoor Tritiya, Sindhur Teej, Sindhara Teej, Sowbhagya Teej, Gauri Teej, is observed on the third day of Navratri Durga Puja festival.

In 2025, Sindoor Tritiya date is September 24 in Maha Navratri (Shardiya Navratri) and April 1 in Chaitra Vasantha Navaratri.

Sindoor Teej is mainly celebrated in North Indian states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, etc..

As it falls on third day of Navratri, Chandraghanta Navdurga is worshipped. The main ritual of Sindoor Tritiya is – offering Sindoor (Kumkum / Vermillion powder) to the Goddess.

Suvasini Puja is also observed on Maha Tritiya day in many parts of India where Suvasini (Sumangali) women are assumed as Goddesses and worshipped.

Sindoor Tritiya is especially dedicated to the worship of Goddess Chandraghanta, the third form of Devi Durga, and holds particular significance for married women.

Rituals and Significance

Sindoor Tritiya involves offering sindoor (vermilion) to the Goddess, which is symbolic of marital bliss and the longevity of a woman’s husband.

On this day, married women (suhaagin) perform special worship and offer sindoor to the Devi, praying for happiness, prosperity, and the safety of their husbands.

Sindoor is an essential element of Devi worship, and not anointing sindoor by married women is considered inauspicious in traditional practice.

The festival is known by other names as well, such as Maha Tritiya, Saubhagya Teej, Sowbhagya Teej, and Gauri Teej.

Apart from North India, the festival has cultural significance in various parts of India, including rituals in Bengal and South Indian traditions during Navratri.

Spiritual Importance

Regular offering of sindoor to the Goddess during Navratri, especially on Sindoor Tritiya, is believed to remove obstacles and increase fortune and peace in life.

It marks the culmination of the first three auspicious days of Navratri and is celebrated as a symbol of female power (Shakti) and auspicious marital status.

The third day of Navratri is dedicated to Devi Chandraghanta, who embodies courage, grace, and the power to dispel negativity.

Devotees worship Chandraghanta for valor, beauty, and the expulsion of negative forces from their lives.

Sindoor Tritiya thus blends ritualistic worship, devotional acts for family welfare, and reverence for the divine feminine power in Hindu tradition.
