Saffron clothes also known as Kaavi in Tamil are usually worn by sages, saints and by the Vedic scholars. Saffron colour represents purity, and it is considered as the best colour, which suits the wise and learned people of all ages. These types of clothes were worn by the ancient rishis, since they consider these clothes as very sacred.
Ayyappa devotees would also wear saffron clothes, when they decide to visit a trip to the holy Sabarimala. Famous Hindu saints like Adishankara, Ramanuja, Madhwacharya and Guru Raghavendra used to wear only this type of sacred dress, and would perform pujas, homams and meditation to the almighty. Saffron colour removes the ego from our mind, and it also removes the other bad habits like lust, greed and anger from us. Ancient kings whenever they decide to perform meditation, they used to wear the Saffron clothes only, and would start doing meditation.
The great Paramacharya, Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal and Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamigal of Kancheepuram Mutt, used to wear only saffron clothes as their regular dress. Pilgrims who aim to visit the holy temples like Kasi, Badrinath and Kedarnath, would generally wear Saffron clothes, in order to make themselves as spiritual seekers.
It is also believed that evil spirits and evil forces would not attack us if we wear the holy saffron clothes in our body. The significance of wearing saffron clothes is also mentioned in our holy texts, and our ancient sages insist us to wear these types of dresses only, in order to add sweetness in our lives.
But nowadays, some younger generation people are not interested to wear these types of dresses, even when they plan to visit the holy temples. They used to think, that wearing of a Kaavi dress is an old fashion, and some young people might also feel, that they would be labelled by others as “KAAVI MANIDHAN”.
But modern age people must think, that all of our ancestors and saintly people were wore only these type of dresses, and due to that, they have attained higher levels in their lives.
