Sabarimala Temple opens for Makaravilakku season on 30 December 2014. Makaravilakku Makarajyoti date is January 15, 2015.

The hill abode of Lord Ayyappa here will be opened on Tuesday for the 20-day Makaravilaku season, the concluding phase of the annual pilgrimage season.

Melsanthi Krishnadas Nampoothiri will open the Sreekovil of the temple at 5.30 pm in the presence of Thantri Kandararu Rajivaru. As an ongoing practice, no ritual will be held at the Sreekovil in the evening.

Erumely Pettathullal

Erumely Pettathullal, one of the important events of the Makaravilakku festival, will be held at the Erumely Sree Dharma Sastha temple on January 11.

The pettathullal celebration, marking the victory of Lord Ayyappa over demon Mahishi, will be held under the auspices of Ambalappuzha team led by Chandrasekharan Nair and Alangad team led by Vijayakumar Menon.

The three-day procession carrying the Thiruvabharanam, the attire in gold to be adorned on the idol of Lord Ayyappa on the Makaravilakku day on January 14, will be taken out from Pandalam Valiyakoickal Sree Dharma Sastha temple at 1 pm on January 12.

Traditional receptions will be given to the Thiruvabharanam on the procession route at Kulanada Devi temple, Ullannur Sree Bhadra Devi temple and Pampadimon temple before the first day’s halt at Ayroor Puthiyakavu Devi temple.

After leaving the temple at 4 am, the procession will be given receptions at Idapavoor temple, Vadasserikara Prayar Sree Mahavishnu temple, Madamon Rishikesa temple and Perunad Sree Dharma Sastha temple before the second night halt at Laha Forest Inspection Bungalow on January 13.

On the concluding day of the procession on January 14, the procession will be given receptions at Nilackal Sree Mahadeva temple and Attathode before the noon halt at Valiyanavattom.

After leaving Valiyanavattom at 3 pm, the Thiruvabharanam procession will be accorded a traditional reception at Saramkuthi at 6 pm. From Saramkuthi, the Thiruvabharanam procession will be led with nadaswaram, panchavadyam and chendamelam by hundreds of devotees to Sopanam of the temple.

In front of Sreekovil, Thantri Rajivaru and Melsanthi will receive the Thiruvabharanam and deepardhana will be conducted at 6.30 pm after adorning the Thiruvabharanam on the idol of Lord Ayyappa.
