Rudra is an aspect of Lord Shiva, and his name was mentioned in Rigveda for several times.He is also associated with the wind god Vayu, and he is praised as the king of the Lords, and he destroys the entire universe through his supreme powers during the time of deluge.
Sri Rudram is a popular mantra, and most of the Nayanmar saints have chanted that, and due to that, they have attained the Shiva Loka. Chanting of Rudram would cleanse our sins, would purify our mind, and all of our diseases would be cured.
Lord Rudra is good in archery and he is described as a great hunter. He also would hunt the badness from us and would give good knowledge, courage and wisdom.In ancient Shaivite texts, Lord Rudra is described as a form of Shiva, and in some texts, Rudra is mentioned as one of the names of Lord Shiva. Rudra is the Supreme Being who dwells in the souls of everyone, and he originates for the sake of his devotees.
Lord Rudra is the one who appears with matted hair, wears a tiger skin on his waist, and appears with his ghost attendants. He is the supreme sage, and he didn’t show partiality on his devotees. His divine qualities cannot be fully described even by his consort Ma Shakti Devi. He is the one who acts as Vishnu and Brahma. Rudra is described as the one who removes the fear from us. He gives great strength in our mind and body and would add sweetness in our lives.
The great Lingayat Saint Sri Basavanna worshipped Lord Rudra as a form of Lord Shiva, and he used to wear the holy rudraksha all over his body, and he also insisted his followers and disciples to do so. Ma Akkamahadevi was a great devotee of Lord Shiva, and she used to wear the holy rudraksha on her body, and also she would always keep a small shiva lingam in her hand. Ancient kings worshipped Lord Rudra, and attained enlightenment through that.
