Ramanuja was a Vaishnavite saint and a social reformer. He was a staunch devotee of Lord Vishnu, and he was the main propagator of the Sri Vaishnavism philosophies. Through his tremendous efforts, the “VISHNU BHAKTI” was spread amongst the devotees throughout India. He was against caste discrimination and he treated all the people as alike irrespective of their caste, creed and community. He also shared the Narayana Mantra with others, in order to uplift the common people to the spiritual path.
Through the selfless attitude of Sri Ramanuja, people tasted the sweetness of uttering the Narayana Mantra, “OM NAMO NARAYANAYA NAMAHA”, and everyone in Srirangam began to delightfully chant the Mantra, and enjoyed the essence of spiritualism.
Ramanuja’s philosophy of Vishishtadvaita attracted his followers, disciples and the general public, and large number of people began to gather in order to listen to his spiritual discourses on Vaishnavism. He also wrote some bhakti texts, and those texts are still popular among the Vaishnavites, especially among the Iyengar Brahmins.
According to his philosophy, one can attain the abode of god, only through constant bhakti, and by paying more and more attention on the almighty, and by glorifying him by singing songs, reciting his mantras and sanctifying him by praising his glories.
