Significance of Prahlada Mantra

I am interested in regularly listening to Divine discourses conducted in the temples. Recently while I was hearing one Divine Discourse on the holy epic Srimad Bhagavatham, the Upasakar began to tell some wonderful and unknown incidents from the Bhagavatham. While he was telling about the Prahlada Bhakti on Lord Narayana, he also tells about the significance of the Prahlada Mantra, and he further adds, that both the Narayana Mantra and Prahlada Mantra are considered as one and the same, with regard to its supreme qualities and significance.

The wonderful meaning of the name Prahlada is mentioned in Srimad Bhagavatham is as follows:

PRA – Denotes the Pranava Mantra, “OM”

HA – Denotes the name of Lord Hari

LA – Denotes the name of Ma Lakshmi

DA – Denotes Dananjeyan, one of the thousand names of Lord Vishnu, as mentioned in Sri Vishnu Sahasranamam Stotra.

Hence if we once recite the Prahalada Mantra, “OM SREE PRAHALADA NAMAHA”, it is equivalent to reciting one thousand times of Narayana Mantra, “OM NAMO NARAYANA NAMAHA”, since in Vaishnavism, Bhaktas are given prime importance than that of Bhagavan.

Lot of positive vibrations also would occur within us, when we recite the Prahlada Mantra, and I have fully realized it. Prahlada was also present during the regime of the noble king Prithu, who is considered to be an aspect of Lord Vishnu, and in course of time, both of them were become friends. When the Devas tried to create enmity between the two kings, the great king Prithu said, “Oh my Dear Devas, I am the incarnation of Lord Vishnu, and I consider Prahlada, not only as my friend, but also as my well-wisher, brother and my close aide. Don’t try to create enmity between us, and you could never do like this, since Lord Vishnu and his incarnations would never hate the great Prahlada, since Lord Vishnu always dwells on the soul of the pure and pious Prahlada”.

Prahlada was also present during the time of churning of the divine ocean, and he was also present during the time of Vamana Avatar of Lord Vishnu. Prahlada is considered as the lovely son of Lord Vishnu, and once Lord Vishnu itself had conveyed this to his consort Ma Lakshmi and also added, that those who recite the names and Mantras of Prahlada would attain a good status in their lives, and after their life time, they would also attain salvation.

Hence let us keep chanting the Prahalada Mantra, “OM SRI PRAHALADAYA NAMAHA”, and let us be blessed.

“OM”
