Avidhva Navmi or Navami Shraddh is the ninth day of Pitru Paksha or Mahalaya Fortnight, a fortnight dedicated to dead ancestors. In 2025, Navami Shraddh date is September 15.
Durga Puja is also observed on this day in many places of India.
On this day Sumangali women who were passed away before their husband are offered shraddh tharpan rituals.
Navami Shraddh falls on ninth day in Krishna Paksha of Bhadrapad month as per Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu & Kannada calendars and in Ashwin month as per North Indian Hindi calendars.

As per Tamil beliefs, apart from Varanasi, Rameswaram, Gaya, Rishikesh & Haridwar, Sarva Loka Soorya Theertham near the Nedumbaram Sri Rama temple on the Thiruvallur – Tirutani route is considered the best place for Navami Shraddha tharpanam rituals.
