Natural perfumes such as Sandal paste, Neem and Turmeric are highly spiritual in nature, since these items contain lot of medicinal properties, which heals various skin diseases of the people. We could find that the idols present in the temples would be frequently adorned with sandal paste by the priests, in order to make the deities to get relieved from the heat temperature.
Those who suffer from dandruff must have to apply Neem oil, before taking bath, in order to kill the harmful germs present on our head. Still in most of the orthodox Hindu families, females would apply Turmeric on their face, in order to add more natural beauty to their face, and also the fragrance would last for a long time.Sandal paste can also be applied for small burns present on our body, and especially during summer season, we can apply it on our body in order to add more chillness to our body, and by doing that, we can please Lord Krishna also, since the great Lord Krishna, likes applying sandal paste on his body, and during his period, similar to playfully stealing butter from his neighbourhood, he also used to apply sandal paste all over his body, by stealing it from the places of his well-wishers, and that’s why still in Udupi and Guruvayur Krishna Temples, the idols of Lord Child Krishna would be applied with large quantity of sandal paste regularly.
But nowadays, the act of applying natural Ayurveda medicines is very much reduced, since the present day modern women, mostly prefers to apply only artificial perfumes on their face and on their body, in order to add more fragrance to their body. Some artificial perfumes contain harmful substances, which could create itches and rashes on the body, if it is applied more than the prescribed limit, whereas even if we apply more quantity of natural perfumes on our body, we would not subject to any harm from those good natural substances.
During ancient periods, when there were no artificial perfumes, people used to apply only the natural perfumes, and hence, they lived a healthy and comfortable life. Some Tamil texts also mentions about the natural goodness of the Ayurveda materials like Turmeric, Sandal and Neem, and ancient Rishi Pathnis also used these materials in order to make their body to appear more shining.
Hence let us try to avoid artificial scents and instead of that, let us practice our ancient method of applying natural paste on our body, in order to add more sweetness in our life.
