Narasimhar Brahmotsavam at Triplicane Parthasarathy Temple

Narasimhar Brahmotsavam at Triplicane Parthasarathy Temple..

The Parthasarathy Temple is an ancient temple which was constructed during the 8th century AD, dedicated to Lord Krishna, located at Triplicane. The temple is glorified in the great divine text “Divya Prabandham”, and is classified as one among the 108 Divya Desams dedicated to Vishnu. The name ‘Parthasarathy’, in  Tamil, means the ‘charioteer of Arjuna’, referring to Krishna’s role as a charioteer to Arjuna in the epic Mahabaratha. It was originally constructed by the Pallavas in the 8th century by king Narasimhavarman I.

The temple has shrines of five forms of Vishnu: Narasimha, Rama, Gajendra Varadaraja, Ranganatha and Krishna. The temple is one of the oldest temples in Chennai. There are shrines for Vedavalli Thayar, Ranganatha,  Andal, Hanuman, Alvars, Ramanuja, Swami Manavala Mamunigal and Vedanthachariar.

The annual brahmotsavam festival of the Sri Narasimhar shrine of the Sri Parthasarathy Perumal temple in Triplicane commenced with the customary flag hoisting. Lord Sri Parthasarathy, Triplicane Chithirai Brahmotsavam takes place from 23.04. 2024 to 02.05. 2024.

The utsava idol of Sri Thelliya Singar (Azhagiya Singar) were brought out in different alankarams, such as Sri Lakshminarasimhar at 6.15 a.m. on June 24, 2024, Sri Pallaku Nachiyar at 5.30 a.m. on June 21, and Sri Yoga Narasimhaswamy at 4 p.m. on the same day.

The festivities, which include the Garuda Sevai at 5.30 a.m. on June 19,2024, and the temple car festival on June 23,2024, at 7 a.m., are expected to attract a large number of devotees. The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department has made suitable arrangements such as provision of drinking water facilities and installation of shamianas. Personnel of the police and the Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services were stationed at the venue during the festival.

Annual Brahmotsavam is performed in order to show our love and gratitude towards the deities, since through their blessings only we are able to survive in this world. God has created us, and make us to take each and every step in our life. He is omnipotent, who dwells in our heart also. We can consider him as our own mother, father, child and friend also. Similar to creating happiness in the minds of our children, by the way of doing Annual Brahmotsavam, we are pleasing the deities and honouring them, and showing our bhakti by the way of doing this kind of Seva.

Annual Brahmotsavam is practicable since ancient times, and during the time of the Vijayanagar King, Sri Krishnadeva raja, he used to perform Annual Brahmotsavam in the temples located in his kingdom. He has wilfully done this act, as per the advice of his Guru Sri Vyasaraja, a great Madhwa Saint, and an incarnation of Bhakta Prahalada.
