Meher Baba (1894 –1969) was a spiritual saint, and he self-declared, that he is an avatar of god. His birth name was Merwan Sheriar Irani. He is the believer of the formless god.

Irani was born in the year 1894 in Pune in the family of Zoroastrians. His spiritual interest was started during his teenage, and he learnt the philosophies of Hinduism from spiritual teachers and had his own disciples.

From the year 1925 to till the end of his life, Meher Baba maintained strict silence, and communicated with others by hand gestures and for certain important communication, he used to write the details in a note book. He stayed alone for several years, and meditated at his Ashram, and also observed fasting for several days. He travelled to lot of holy places, and spread the philosophies of Hinduism in India as well as in abroad and done lot of charity works, and healed the diseases of lepers and cancer patients etc.

Meher Baba gave lot of teachings on spirituality and the concepts of living a noble and sin free life, and he taught that each soul must realize the God within him through meditation and constant prayers. He also preached about the Avatar of various Hindu gods, and explained their importance among the people.

He pointed out that Sai Baba of Shirdi was the perfect saint, and he is the saviour for the entire world. He met Sai Baba’s disciple Upasni Maharaj, and lived with him for a few years. In 1922, Meher Baba and his disciples established an Ashram in Mumbai.And there he has done lot of social welfare activities and spiritual services. Meher Baba also started a school, hospital and a poor feeding centre. In the year 1969, Meher Baba died at his home in Meherazad.
