Matsya Dwadashi is observed on the twelfth day in Shukla Paksha of Margashirsha Month. In 2017, Matsya Dwadashi date is December 1.
On Matsya Dwadasi day, devotees worship Matsya Avatara (Fish incarnation) of Lord Vishnu. It is the first avatara of Sri Maha Vishnu. Shodashopachara Puja, 16 steps of Puja vidhi, is performed to Srimannarayana and appropriate charity is offered to Brahmins.
Women perform this Vrata for marital bliss and good health of their husband and children. Men observe Matsya Dwadasi vratham for health, wealth and prosperity.
There is only one temple in India dedicated to Lord Matsya – Nagalapuram Veda Narayana Swamy Temple near Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh.
