Narasimha Swamy in Puranas, Vedas

Once there was an ancient temple for Lord Narasimha, which was famously known as Sri Prahalada Lakshmi Narasimha Temple, and here Lord Narasimha appears in the main shrine along with his consort Ma Lakshmi and his staunch devotee Prahalada. This temple was supposed to be built by the Pandavas, but later it was submerged into the ocean, during the 5th century BC, at the time of Tsunami occurrence. The details about this temple were found in an ancient Purana. This temple was built by the Pandavas as per the advice given by Lord Krishna, in order to cleanse their sins in killing the Kauravas during the Kurukshetra war.

Pandavas after acquiring their kingdom from the Kauravas, began to construct this wonderful temple at Mathura city as a token of showing their love and respect to the Vishnu avatar, Lord Narasimha. This temple was built by the Pandavas after taking suitable guidance from the Divine Architect, Lord Vishwakarma. At the time of consecration ceremony of the temple, all the divine devas and even pious demons like Prahalada and Vibhishana were present there and received attractive gifts from the Pandavas.

Ancient people used to undergo pilgrimage to this temple, by considering it to be a holy temple like Kashi, Badrinath and Kedernath. The temple was beautifully engraved with golden pillars and it was very good in art and architecture. Holy Sages like Narada and Tumburu used to frequently visit this temple and would sing wonderful songs in praise of Lord Prahalada Lakshmi Narasimha.

For constructing this temple, Pandavas have used almost half of their wealth to make nice interiors and beautiful ponds were also created. This temple was considered to be a very big temple, and it spreads about 300 acres. Homes for the priests were also built nearby the temple, and food and water facilities were provided to them. Daily free food offering were also performed to the devotees during the time of Pandavas, and if this temple was presently available for public view, then it would have attracted the attention of the entire world.
