Monthly Vinayaka Chaturthi (Masik Vinayak Chaturthi) is the Ganesh Puja festival held monthly once other than Sankashti Ganesha Chaturthi.
The Chaturthi (Fourth lunar day) which comes after Purnima (in Krishna Paksha) is known as Sankashtahara Chaturthi. And the one which comes after Amavasya (in Shukla Paksha) is referred to as Vinayak Chaturthi.
Note – Monthly Vinayak Chaturthi is different from Sankashti Chaturthi (Check Sankashti 2026 dates).
Even though every Vinayak Chaturthi is observed by fasting and vrata, the one comes in Bhadrapada Month – Ganesha Chaturthi (Vinayaka Chaturthi) is the important one and one among the biggest Hindu festivals in the world.
Basic meaning
-
The term Siddhivinayak emphasizes Ganesha as the deity who grants siddhi, buddhi, and success in undertakings, particularly new ventures, exams, business, and spiritual sādhana.
-
Chaturthi is the 4th tithi of the lunar fortnight; Ganesha is especially associated with both Krishna Paksha (Sankashti) and Shukla Paksha (Vinayaka) Chaturthi vratas.
Relation to Vinayaka Chaturthi
-
In common usage, Siddhivinayak Chaturthi is another devotional way of referring to monthly Vinayaka Chaturthi fasts done in honour of Siddhivinayak, especially by devotees of the famous Siddhivinayak temples (like Mumbai).
-
The most important Siddhivinayak focus naturally comes during the major Bhadrapada Vinayaka Chaturthi (Ganesh Chaturthi), when many undertake special vratas and visits to Siddhivinayak shrines.
Vrat and pūjā pattern
-
Observers typically fast for at least one Chaturthi (either daytime fast for Vinayaka Chaturthi or till moonrise for Sankashti), worship a Siddhivinayak mūrti or picture, and offer durva grass, modak, ladoo, and red flowers.
-
Core worship includes:
-
Snāna and śuddha āchara in the morning.
-
Ganesha dhyāna, 16‑upachāra pūjā, reading or listening to Chaturthi vrat‑kathā.
-
Japa of “Om Siddhivinayakāya Namaḥ” or “Om Gam Ganapataye Namaḥ” with specific sankalpa for removal of obstacles and attainment of siddhi in chosen goals.
-
When it is observed (general)
-
Every lunar month has two Chaturthis; many devotees choose:
-
Shukla Paksha Chaturthi as Vinayaka (Siddhivinayak) Chaturthi, with madhyāhna pūjā as main muhūrta.
-
Krishna Paksha Chaturthi as Sankashti or Sankatahara Chaturthi, with moonrise as key time.
-
-
For a specific civil year and place (e.g., Hyderabad 2026), one follows a detailed pañcānga or online panchang to pick the exact Chaturthi dates and madhyāhna or moonrise timings, then performs Siddhivinayak‑pūjā on those days.
