Rishi Marichi was the son of Lord Brahma, and he is one among the Saptarishis. He is the father of Rishi Kashyapa.
Marichi, followed the path of Dharma and was greatly respected by the demi gods, devas and asuras for his great meditative power. Along with Rishi Kashyapa, he had many children. Mata Dharmavrata was his noble wife.
Once Dharmavrata was cursed by the sage to become a stone, and she then prayed to Lord Vishnu to relieve her from the curse, but Vishnu said she would continue to be regarded as a stone and will be called as Devashila, and will be worshipped as a holy stone, and all the divine gods shall be dwelled in it, and would be considered as a sacred stone in the house of Hindus.
The life of Marichi is known from the writings of sage Kashyapa. Marichiwasagain married to a pious and a worshipful lady Mata Kala, and gave birth to Kashyapa. Kashyapa is believed to be an Amsha of Lord Vishnu, and contained his features.
Marichi visited Bhishma during the kurukshetra war. Marichialso advised Dhruva to seek the spiritual path, in order to become a great “DHRUVA STAR”. He is also mentioned in Puranas and the Vedas.
Krishna in the Bhagavad-Gita says, “Of all the divine rishis, I am theMarichi”. From that we can know, about his importance.
He was the mind born son of Lord Brahma and was an expert in doing meditation and contains great spiritual energy. The curse which he had given to his wife Dharmavrata was also turned out to be a boon to her, by worshipping her as a holy stone. He was a great devotee of the trimurtis, Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva.
Let us worship him with full of devotion in our mind, and be blessed.
