Madhmaheshwar Temple in Uttarakhand
Madhyamaheshwar temple is located in the village named Mansuna, Garhwal Himalaya region in the state of Uttarkhand in North India. The primary deity of this temple is Lord Shiva. The architecture and culture of the temple reflects the north Indian temple srchitectural style. According to the local legends, the temple is strongly believed to be built by Pandavas.
It is to be noted that Madhyamaheshwar temple is also locally known as Madmaheshwar temple. It is a Hindu temple that is largely dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is situated at an elevation of 3,497 m (11,473.1 ft).
Madhyamaheshwar temple is the fourth temple that is to be visited by pilgrims and devotees in the Panch Kedar pilgrimage circuit, which comprises five Shiva temples in the Garhwal region of the Himalayan region. It is to be remembered that the other temples in the popular circuit are Kedarnath, Tungnath and Rudranath. Shivarathri is celebrated in a grand manner in this temple with festivity plus much devotion and dedication.
According to the local legend, Lord Shiva hide from the Pandavas in the form of Nandi when they reached in the Himalaya for worshipping Lord Shiva. Later the Lord showed his original self at five places; in the form of a hump at Kedarnath, in the shape of bahu (arms) at Tungnath, with his face at Rudranath, his nabhi (navel) and stomach at Madhyamaheswar and his hair (locks) called jata at Kalpeshwar.
It is strongly believed that Pandavas were much pleased with the revelation of Lord Shiva at these said five places in different forms. Therefore they built temples at these five places and worshipped the lord in order to attained salvation with blessings of Lord Shiva.
