Kharchi Puja is a week-long historical festival celebrated in Tripura, mainly at Chaturdasha Devata Temple in Agartala Tripura. In 2025, Kharchi Puja date is July 3.
Literally, ‘Kharchi’ means ‘auspicious’ in Kakbrook, the tribal language of Tripura. In the past, it was celebrated within the premises of the royal palace but nowadays, it is celebrated by all Hindus including non-tribals in Tripura.
Kharchi Puja is believed as a symbol of harmony and peace of the state of Tripura. Though Kharchi Puja is considered as a tribal festival by outside world, but the 14 deities that are worshipped are all Hindu gods and goddesses.
According to some tourists, this is the only festival or fare where 14 deities are worshipped together at one time.
