Kalyan dev ji Maharaj also known as Swami Kalyandev, was a saint and a Padma Bhushan awardee, for his remarkable social activities in the villages of India.His birth name was Kaluram.
Kaluram was believed to have been born in the year 1876, in a village in Uttar Pradesh and brought up in Muzaffarnagar. In his teenage, he travelled to holy places, and met Swami Vivekananda at Haridwar, and got his blessings.
After some time, he went to Rishikesh and became the disciple of Swami Purnananda, and become a noble saint and he was called as Swami Kalyandev. Kalyandev did severe penance in the Himalayas for some years, and afterwards he established schools, free food centres and medical facilities for the people of North India. He was against caste discrimination and he also fought for the rights of the women.
Kalyandev was a devotee of the great Rishi Shukadeva, son of Veda Vyasa, and founded the Ashram for Shukadeva. He also renovated ancient temples out of the contributions received from the rich people.
Throughout his life he has done lot of welfare services for the benefit of the poor people.
Swami Kalyandev died in the year 2004.
