Indra Deva Mahatmya | Significance of Lord Indra

Lord Indra is the king of Heavens. He is believed to be an ancient god, and he was there, even during the time of churning of the divine ocean during the Treta Yuga. Though there are some bad remarks about Lord Indra with regard to his enjoying pleasures in the Indra Loka, but, generally, he is a pious god similar to Shiva and Vishnu, and he showers his entire grace on to his devotees, and he controls all other demi gods, like Varuna, Vayu, Agni and Kubera.

Lord Indra was praised in the Rig Vedas, as the king of the kings, god of the gods, and with his supreme powers, he creates thunderbolt and lightning, and he is also known as the god of the rain, similar to Lord Varuna.

Similar to other deities, Lord Indra also has several names, which would be regularly recited by the Devas at the time of praising him. The Apsaras, like Ma Ramba, Urvasi and Menaka also used to sing wonderful songs on their master, Lord Indra, as a token of expressing their gratitude over him. Similar to reciting the names of the other gods and goddesses, we can also chant the beautiful names of Lord Indra, in order to get his blessings forever in our life.

Among all other gods, Lord Indra is considered as the god who would bestow boons and fulfills the wishes of his devotees. Whenever anyone does meditation on gods Like Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, and if they didn’t appear to them immediately, it is the great Lord Indra, who would shower mother like affection on them, and would appear before them, and if they are interested, he himself would grant reasonable boons and fulfills their wishes. He would give troubles only to the person who meditates exclusively for acquiring the position of Lord Indra in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Indra is the boss for all the 33 Crores of Divine Devas in the heaven, and apart from them, he also controls everybody in the divine worlds. He occupies the chief position next to Shiva and his family, Vishnu and Brahma. Even Lord Yama used to obey him, and Lord Indra has absolute powers over the earth and the heaven. Lord Indra is also having the powers to bend our fate to some extent, but most of us, are not interested to worship the handsome god, Indra, since most of us are having doubt about his existence and some people consider him merely as a fictitious character. But if we refer to the holy Vedas, lot of hymns are dedicated to him, and he was also praised in those divine texts, and he is the main god, who receives the oblations derived from the fire sacrifices.

The Divine Apsaras, like Ma Urvasi, Ramba and Menaka used to perform dance concerts in the IndraLoka, and also would sing songs in praise of their beloved master, Lord Indra. We should not consider the Apsaras as simply dancers, but they must be considered by us as worshipful mother goddesses.

Some of the songs sung by the Divine Apsaras are as follows:
