Indra is a Vedic deity in Hinduism, and the king of the heaven. He is the son of Kashyapa and Aditi. He was mentioned in Rig Veda, and described him as a most efficient warrior, and a learned scholar who contains valuable powers, and having the capacity to fight with demons. He is guided by his guru “BRAHASPATI”.

His wife’s name was Indrani. He rides an elephant called Iravatha, and having son and daughter, called as Jayantha and Jayanthi. He is the god of the heavens and rains. He has got a great name in killing Vritrasura, the most powerful demon through his Vajrayudha, and is surrounded by several crores of divine devas, who always sing in praise of him.

Several rishis and saints also praised his glory and respected him. He was a great valour in the battle field, especially while fighting with the demons. He looks very charm and gentle in nature.

Some of the unknown facts about Lord Indra are as follows:-

1. During the beginning of Kali Yuga, Lord Indra was worshipped by the people similar to Lord Shiva and Vishnu, but after the numerous construction of temples of Shiva and Vishnu were made, his importance was drastically reduced, and at present, only a few people in the world worships him as the rain deity.

2. Lord Indra is having four hands, similar to the Trimurti, and he efficiently administering his Indra Loka, also called as Swarga Loka.

3. Due to a wrongful act committed by Lord Indra, he has got thousand eyes on his body, and hence he is also called as, the Thousand eyed Indira.

4. Indra was a great warrior and he was good in archery and a master in handling all kinds of weapons. He also knew to use magic during the times of war.

5. Indra is also worshipped by the Buddhist and the Jain people, through a different name.

6. Indra looks very charm, and he is having the capability to grant numerous boons to his devotees, but ancient demons and kings used to meditate only on Lord Brahma for getting boons.

7. Lord Indra is also praised by his thousand names, similar to other deities like Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma.

8. The present Indra would occupy his seat in the Indra Loka till the end of this Kaliyuga. We can also worship Lord Indra similar to worshipping other deities in order to get positive results in our life.

9. During the times of drought and famine, performing Yagnas in favour of Lord Indra would bring heavy rains and we could also get the grace of Lord Indra.

10. Lord Indra is a benevolent and a merciful god, and he is eagerly waiting to give his blessings, but due to our own negligence, we are ignoring him, and some of us even consider him to be a fictitious deity.

11. Lord Indra’s powers are getting increased day by day due to the chastity, purity and generosity of his consort, Ma Indrani, who is also considered to be an aspect of Ma Shakti Devi.
