History of Kalika Mata Mandir, Chittorgarh Fort

Kalika Mata temple is an ancient temple of Ma Kali or Bhadra Kali, it is located in the Chittorgarh fort between Victory tower and Padmini palace. In 18th century, Bappa Rawal constructed here a temple dedicated to God Surya (Sun) which was destroyed by the Allauddin Khilji, then in 14th century, it was reconstructed and the idol of Ma Kali was placed by the Maha Rana Hamir Singh I

One of the main attractions of temple is splendid sculptures. The walls of temple have several beautiful pictures and images of various Goddess and Gods. Images of God Surya (Sun) can be seen on the gate, walls, and Shrine as well. The main idol of the temple is decorated each day. The temple also describes events of Maha Rana Pratap and other warriors of region.

Kalika Mata temple which is also known as Devi Mata Temple is made on a small rock and its main gate opens in East. There are separate rooms in the temple for the priest and other saints. Separate rows are made for entering and Exiting. One more attractive temple of Lord Shiva out of the main temple is called Jogeshwar Maharaj. Besides the main temple, other part of Chittor Fort is also very attractive. It comprises Fateh Prakash Tower, Kirti Stambh, Suraj Kund (tank) and Neel Kanth Mahadev.

Navratri, duration of 9 days dedicated to 9 forms of Ma Durga, is the occasion when temple is decorated with different kind of colorful lighting. A different and special worship is observed at this time.
