Spiritual depiction of Guru Pushya Yoga

Gurupushyamrut Yoga or Guru Pushya Nakshatra Yoga is the most auspicious Yoga among all good periods in Hindu Astrology. It falls on Guruvar (Thursday) which coincides with Pushya Nakshatra or Pushyami.

It is auspicious for house warming ceremonies (Griha Pravesh muhurat), Vidyarambham or Aksharabhyasam (initiation of education to children), and some other auspicious rituals.

As per the scriptures, Pushya Nakshatra is one of the most auspicious nakshatras since It is believed that the Goddess of Wealth, Lakshmi was born on this nakshatra.

When Pushya Nakshatra coincides with a Thursday (Guruvar) or a Sunday (Ravivar) – Gurupushyamtrut Yog and Ravipushyamrut Yog are formed respectively. These Yogas are as sacred tithis as Akshay Tritiya, Chaitra Pratipada, Dhan Teras, Diwali etc..

In 2026, Guru Pushyamrit Yoga comes for 3 times. It is an important auspicious muhurat (Shubh muhurat).

Guru Pushyamrut Yog (often referred to simply as Guru Pushya Yoga) is considered one of the most highly auspicious and powerful alignments in Vedic astrology. It is believed to bring immense success, prosperity, and positive energy to any new endeavor or purchase.

Astrological Formation

This Yoga is formed when Pushya Nakshatra (the 8th lunar mansion in Hindu astrology) coincides with a Thursday (Guruvar).

  • Pushya Nakshatra: Known as the “King of Nakshatras,” Pushya translates to “nourisher” or “provider.” It is ruled by Saturn (which brings stability and permanence) and its presiding deity is Brihaspati (Jupiter).

  • Thursday (Guruvar): Thursday is the day ruled by Jupiter, the planet of wisdom, wealth, and divine blessings.

  • The Synergy: When the Nakshatra whose deity is Jupiter aligns with the day ruled by Jupiter, the benevolent, expansive energies of the planet are magnified exponentially, creating a window of highly auspicious time.

Auspicious Activities (What to Do)

Because Pushya Nakshatra is associated with nourishment and permanence, actions taken during this Yoga are believed to yield long-lasting, positive results. It is highly recommended for:

  • Purchasing Precious Metals: Buying gold, silver, or jewelry is the most popular activity during this time, as it is believed to invite Goddess Lakshmi (wealth) into the home permanently.

  • Investments and Finance: Opening new bank accounts, making long-term investments, or buying property/real estate.

  • Starting New Ventures: Launching a new business, signing important contracts, or laying the foundation stone for a new house or building.

  • Spiritual and Educational Pursuits: It is an excellent time for taking spiritual initiation (Diksha), starting to learn a new skill, or buying books and educational tools.

Important Exception

While Guru Pushyamrut Yog is considered perfect for wealth, property, and business, it is strictly prohibited for marriage ceremonies. According to astrological texts, Pushya Nakshatra is cursed by Lord Shiva when it comes to marital unions, meaning marriages performed during this Yoga are believed to face severe hardships.

Frequency

Guru Pushya Yoga does not happen every month. It typically occurs only two to three times a year, making these specific Thursdays highly anticipated for major financial and life decisions.
