GSB Sabha’s Unique Navaratri celebrations at Dahisar | 10 different Avatars on Same idol.. GSB Sabha Dahisar-Borivali bring to you a unique Navaratri celebration at their Saraswat Cultural & Recreation Centre near N L Complex, Dahisar (E).
Ever witnessed a Navaratri where the same idol is adorned in 10 different Swaroops/ Avatars throughout the course of the festival. Where despite being held in a metro city like Mumbai, religious activities take precedence over Garba nights? Where thousands of devotees are provided both meals as part of daily Anna Daana Seva
You will be blissed & equally blessed to see the same idol in 10 different Swaroops (Avatars) that are changed on daily basis. It is the Sabha’s endeavour to present & worships the divine in different forms of energy throughout the festival. The sanctity with which Sevas/ Poojas are offered follow all religious traditions allowing us to participate.
Dedicated volunteers form different teams, work untiringly & selflessly, ensuring each devotee gets a divine experience. One of the team that looks after changing the Devi’s Swaroop work throughout the night, every night, towards adorning the Goddess in different sarees, ornaments … complimenting her with the right props on the stage, thereby giving a totally different look & feel. Devotees witnessing this for the first time often ask the Sabha members – “Isn’t this idol different from what we saw yesterday?” Well, it is not.
Interested devotees can offer Sevas or perform various Poojas at the Pendol. A very popular Seva is the Tula Seva where one can offer various items like sugar, jaggery, rice, wheat, coconut etc. equal to their weight to the Goddess.
This mandal so performs daily Anna Danna where thousands of Devotees are served meals (Prasad) daily. They also have a Medical camp “Matruvatsalya” where numerous tests are conducted for the devotee free of cost. This year, the said camp is on 2nd October.
Lastly, we would like to bring your attention to the Swaroop shown on Navami (9th day). On this day, the Devi is shown as Maa Kaali who looks mesmerizing … and the devotee watching her will be easily absorbed in her celestial beauty. The Sabha also celebrates Deepotsav on the same day whereby during dusk time, 10K oil lamps are lit, all the electric lamps within the Pendol are switched off & evening Aarti is offered to the Goddess in the illuminance of oil lamps. You definitely cannot miss this part of the Navaratri festival.
Last 2 years due to Covid, the Sabha could not celebrate like previous years. Restrictions to common public, smaller Pendol size, lesser manpower/ volunteers … yet, it could not dampen the Sabha’s spirits & all of the Sevas/ Poojas were peformed religiously maintaining the sanctity of the place. The Sabha was instrumental during Covid time to provide aid to common men in form of Food Distribution, Financial Support, Vaccination Camp where over 500 people were vaccinated free of cost.
This year, they are back in full swing as the Pendol over 40K sq. ft. in area has already been built on a land spread across 1.75 acres near N. L. Complex, Dahisar. So, what are we waiting for … let us all be a part of the 15th Navaratri Utsav organized by G. S. B. Sabha Dahisar-Borivali at their Saraswat Cultural & Recreation Centre, near N. L. Complex, Dahisar (E).
Jai Mata Di!
