Gangotri and Yamunotri temples opened in Uttarakhand

The annual Chardham Yatra, pilgrimage to four most auspicious shrines in Hinduism – Gangotri, Yamuntri, Badrinath, and Kedarnath temples, began on Akshaya Tritiya day (May 6, 2011). Amid chanting of Vedic hymns and slokas, Gangotri and Yamunotri temples’ doors were opened after six months.
Gangotri and Yamunotri yatra will continue for six months. Yamunotri temple was opened at 11 am on Akshaya Tritiya. At 1 pm, Gangotri temple was opened.
