Gangasati (14th century AD) was a female saint and a great poet who composed lot of devotional songs and sung in praise of Lord Krishna. According to legend, she was born in a pious Rajput family in a village at Gujarat. She got married to a noble person and lived her life in the present-day Bhavnagar.
Gangasati was the follower of the Krishna Bhakti Movement. They had a son, and he got married to a pious girl Panbai. The entire family were very religious oriented and concentrated their attention on devotional activities and provided food to the visiting guests at their home. They lived a simple life and concentrated their entire attention on devoting to Lord Krishna.
Gangasati’s husband Kalubha once regained the life of a poor patient, and made him to be healthier through his spiritual powers. Lord Krishna gave his darshan along with Mata Rukmani to the entire family. In course of time, one by one, the entire family took Samadhi. Her songs on Krishna were very popular among the people, and one of verses of the song is as follows:
KRISHNA, MUKUNDA, GOPALA, JAYA JAYA KRISHNA. HAI KRISHNA YOU ARE MY ONLY GOD! PLEASE PROTECT ME THROUGHOUT IN MY LIFE! AND GIVE ME THE ETERNAL BLISS AFTER MY DEATH! PLEASE DON’T LEAVE ME ALONE!
In 1979, a film with the name ‘GANGASATI’ was produced in order to honour the bhakti and the great devotional works of Gangasati.
Let us worship the holy mother and be blessed.
