Ganesha Temples in Kerala

There are just few Lord Ganesha temples in Kerala that has historical or religious importance. It is to be noted that most of the shrines in rest of India has Ganesha temples in the premises of the main deity temples. This culture is not followed among the Hindu Malayali culture. The Hindu Malayali culture and temple tradition are quite different from others. This is the speciality of Kerala temple culture too.

At Shreemadnant temple, there is a Traigartsthapit Ganesha idol which was installed by King Dharmagupta of Trigart. According to the historians, the King of Mysore Tipu Sultan came to this temple in order to destroy it but suddenly his mind got changed after immediately drinking the water from the temple well. Being well satisfied by thirst he gave gifts instead to the local villagers.

The Ganapathi temple in Panangad is very old temple in Kerala, the local believe that this temple was build by the Royal family of Edapilli Palace, near Cochin. This royal family till does the grand festival of this temple.  The idol is made with pañchalohâ (an alloy of five metals. The idol has ten-arms. It is also utsav mûrti of this Ganapati temple. The royal family  and their relatives often visit this temple along with the villagers.

Temple of Mahâganapati is located in Calicut.

The Temple of Ganesh is located in the premises of Guruvayoor temple.

The Mahâ Ganapati (or Madhura Ganapati) in the Madhure temple is located near Kasargod.

Shree Ganesh temple, who likes famous sweet Udupa is located at Madhupur.

Shri Agrasala Ganapathy temple, Pazhavangadi Ganapathi Kovil (temple), East of the Fort and Mangala Vinayakar temple, Vinayaka Nagar, Karamana is located in Tiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum).
