Gadadhar Bhatta Goswami

Sri Gadadhar Bhatta Goswami was believed to have been born at a village in West Bengal. He was a brilliant student from his young age onwards. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu had shown personal attention on Sri Gadadhar Bhatta Goswami, gave him the deity of Lord Krishna to worship, and also taught him the holy Srimad Bhagavatam.

Sri Gadadhara Goswami is a combined form of Ma Chandrakantia gopika, and Ma Purnanada, the best girl friend of Prabhu Balarama. Sri Gadadhara describes Lord Chaitanya as the creator of the Vedas, and also described him as a best Saint and saviour who has born in this world in order to maintain Dharma and to promote the “SRI KRISHNA BHAKTI SPIRIT”, in the minds of the people, irrespective of their caste, creed, community, gender and religion. While Gadhadhara was worshipping Krishna, sometimes he used to talk in the female voice, thus by proving to the world, that he was the form of the Gopika. Sometimes he used to funnily hold the butter pot on his head, by pretending as if he was a Gopika, and he used to ask, “Who wants to buy butter, which is liked by my dear Lord Sri Krishna”?

Gadadhara Dasa is considered to be the chief preachers of Lord Krishna in West Bengal, and his discourses were received wide appreciation from the listeners, since he used to explain the incidents from the Holy epics Bhagavatham and Bhagavat Gita in an interesting and in a simplified manner. Gadadhara Dasa delivered countless lectures, and by listening to his lectures, the listeners would feel as if the divine nectar was poured into their ears directly from the heaven.

Gadadhara also used to dance and dance by chanting the holy names of Lord Krishna during the time of delivering his spiritual discourse on Srimad Bhagavatham. Once, his acts were criticised by some Muslims, and they also tried to ban his spiritual discourses, but after hearing the soft words from the mouth of Gadadhara, those Muslims stopped criticising him, and in fact, some of them were even listened to his spiritual discourses with great interest and admiration. Gadadhara used to affectionately hug even the people who belong to other religions, and he used to tell, “According to me, all are one and the same, and I am considering everyone as the divine forms of Lord Krishna, irrespective of their caste, creed, community, gender and religion”.

Shri Gadadhara Bhatta lived in Vrindavan and he has remarkably done service to Lord Krishna. At the end of his life, he left his physical body and merged with Lord Krishna Bhagavan.

Some of the wonderful poems composed by Sri Gadadhar Bhatta Goswami are as follows:-

If I found to be great interesting in chanting the divine names of Lord Krishna, and if I enjoy singing the songs of Lord Krishna, then why can’t you chant the sweet names of Lord Krishna?”

Don’t postpone in chanting the names of Lord Krishna to tomorrow! Since nobody knows whether who would be alive till tomorrow!

By chanting the names of Lord Krishna would destroy our sins and also it would purify our soul.
