Durga Puja, the largest Hindu festival celebrated in Uttar Pradesh, may also increase pollution in River Ganga. But in 2010, Uttar Pradesh will celebrate Eco Friendly Durga Puja as the artists of Durga idols are using natural colors to paint Durga idols. Durga idols will be immersed in River Ganga on culmination day of Navratri or Durga Puja.
Till this year, Durga idols used to be made with eco-hazardous material like Plaster of Paris (PoP) which does not dissolve in water and harms water animals. But this year, artists decided to use clay to make Durga idols. Worshipping clay idols may reduce the pollution of River Ganga which increases due to Durga Visarjan.
