According to our Hindu Holy Texts, there are certain dwarfs, who are considered as the aspects of the god. Once there lived a dwarf demon,and he has shown lot of ignorance and lack of faith on god, and his name is Muyalakan. In order to remove his ignorance and to inculcate bhakti on his soul, Lord Shiva fought with them, and crushed him on his legs, and he had given the everlasting spiritual bliss to him. He lives in the Kailash Mountain by serving as a Divine Attendant to Lord Shiva.
During the Treta Yuga, Lord Mahavishnu incarnated as Vamana, who is a dwarf Brahmin boy, and in order to keep Lord Indra in his position as “DEVENDRA”, in his Indra Loka, Lord Vamana, has cunningly sent Mahabali to the Sutala Loka. Most of us are criticising Lord Vamana for his act. But the great Lord would never do mistakes, and he also would act according to the principles of the Yuga Dharma. Since Indra only is entitled to rule the Swarga Loka until the end of the Kali Yuga, he has regained his position as “DEVENDRA”, during the Treta Yuga, and Mahabali would again rule over the SwarkaLoka, after the completion of this present Kali Yuga.
Rishi Agastya is also considered as a “DWARF”, and he is popularly known as “KURUMUNI” in Tamil, which means, short Rishi. Agastya though appears to be small in size, but his powers are unlimited. Agastya is also considered to be an aspect of Lord Shiva, and he has become more popular, after he released the holy River Ma Cauvery from his Kamandala, Holy Pot, to the earth.
Agastya also killed the demons Ilvala and Vatapi, and removed the fear of the Devas. He also removed the ego of the “VINDYA MOUNTAIN”, and proved his powers before him. Agastya has seen the marriage of Lord Sundareswarar and Ma Meenakshi from the earth itself, due to the grace of Lord Shiva. Agastya is also very much attached towards Tamil god, Muruga, and he has seen the Divine Appearance of Lord Muruga for many times. It is also believed that he still lives in the “POTHIGAI” Hills and meditating on Lord Shiva. By reading the detailed history about the Holy Dwarfs like Agastya and Vamana, we would get great spiritual pleasure.
