Dwadashi Shraddha is the 12th day of Pitru Paksha Shraddha. Also known as Yathi Mahalaya, Sanyasi Shraddh, Yateenam Mahalayam, Yathi Dwadashi Shraddh, it falls on 12th day of Pitru Paksha, Dwadasi in Krishna Paksha of Ashwin Month in North Indian Hindi calendar and in Bhadrapada Month as per Amavasyant Panchangams of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashatra, Gujarat and Karnataka.
In 2025, Dwadashi Shraddh Mahalaya date is September 18.
It is an auspicious day to offer Shraddh rituals to Yathis (Saints, Sadhus, Sanyasis, Rishis, etc).
The holy people those who involved in writing, compiling, and structuring of Hindu scriptures are offered tharpan, pinda daan and other shraddh rituals on this day.
Benefits or the merits of doing Dwadashi Shraddha is – This is called “Ksheera Amritha Dosha Nivruthi Tharpanam”. This would help those mothers who could not give their milk to their babies, and to the babies who died without getting mother’s milk.
