Dushala, Sister of Duryodhana

Dushala was the sister of Duryodhana as mentioned in the great epic Mahabharata. She was married to Jayadratha the king of Sindhu, and they had one son.

Jayadratha contains bad manners, and done many bad activities in his life. Though his wife Dushala had tried to correct him, he doesn’t listen to her words, and continued doing bad things in his life. Once he tried to kidnap Mata Draupadi, due to her beauty, and after that Arjuna fought with him and had injured him with his weapons, but he didn’t kill him, since he considered Dushala as his own sister. Pandavas gave several chances to him in order to correct himself from doing bad activities, but he doesn’t change his bad behaviour, and finally he was killed by Arjuna in the Kurukshetra war.

Dushala was a noble and a chaste woman who contains very good features and looks very beautiful. Though she was the sister of Kauravas, she didn’t hate the Pandavas and gave much respect to them. She worshipped Lord Krishna whole-heartedly and believed that he is an avatar of Lord Vishnu. Her Ishta Devata was Mata Durga, and used to perform regular pujas to her for the wellbeing of her husband Jayadratha. But due to her ill fate, she lost her husband in the war.

Let us worship the pious woman and be blessed.
