Draksharamam Sri Bhimeshwara swamy temple, also known as Draksharama Bhimanatha swamy temple, is one of the Pancharama temples in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. Draksharamam located at a distance of 28 kilometers from Kakinada, 50 kilometers from Rajahmundry, and 25 kilometers from Amalapuram.
It was the abode of Daksha Prajapathi hence it has got the name ‘Draksharamam’. Daksha is the father of Goddess Sati, the spiritual spouse of Lord Shiva.
It is said that sage Vedavyasa founded the temple of Darksharamam. We can see the Ravi tree and Shivalingam founded by him near the temple. It is believed that ‘Rudra Thirtham’ near the western gate of the temple is directly connected with Kasi Vishweswara temple in Varanasi.
Draksharama Bhimeshwara swamy blesses his devotees along with his divine consort Goddess Manikyamba. It is one of the three holy places where Lord Shiva and Goddess Shakti have equal importance – the other two are Kasi Vishweshwara swamy and Annapurna Mata in Varanasi; and Srisailam Mallikarjuna swamy and Goddess Bramarambika Devi. Draksharamam temple is also popular as Astadasha Shakti Peetham of Goddess Manikyamba Devi.
The important festivals in Draksharamam temple are – Durga Saran Navaratri Festival in Ashwayuja masam in Telugu calendar (September – October), Karthika Somavaaram and Jwala Thoranam in Karteeka masam (November), Bhimeshwara Jayanthi or Swamyvari Janmadinam in Margasira masam (November – December), Subramanya Shashti in Margashira masam (December), and Mahasivarathri festival in Maghamasam (February – March).
