Vedic deities are those deities who are mentioned in the Holy Vedas and in the Puranas, and they receives their share of oblation from the fire sacrifices, and they include Indra, Surya, Agni, Ushas, Vayu, Varuna,Mitra, Aditi, Yama, Soma, Saraswati, Prithvi, and Rudra.
In Rigveda, the names and the importance of the Vedic deities are mentioned. The Heaven god Indra, is mentioned as the destroyer of Demon Vritrasura, and as the chief of the Devas, and Lord Chandra, is one of the Navagrahas and gives coolness to us through his supreme powers, and similarly other Vedic deities are also discharging their duties in a fantastic manner, and gives all kinds of prosperities to us. They are to be regularly worshipped by us similar to other deities like Vinayaka, Muruga and Ayyappa.
Lord Rudra, Yama, Surya, Varuna, Vayu and Agni are the most important Vedic gods, and they give more comforts and luxuries, and help us to lead a stress free life. Lord Brahma and his consort Mata Saraswati are considered to be the deities of Vedas, and they are also eligible to receive the oblation from the fire sacrifices, and they must be worshipped for getting good knowledge in all the subjects.
In Hinduism, we are worshipping large number of gods and goddesses. Apart from the main gods and goddesses, we are worshipping the demi gods, and demi goddesses, guardian gods, saints, rishis and their wives etc. In ancient times, people used to worship the Vedic deities such as Pushan, Akash raj, Lord Indra, Varuna, Brahma, Vayu, Surya, Agni, Yama Dev etc., along with the main deities. For Lord Yama, Brahma and Surya only a few temples are exist throughout the world.
