Sant Dhudhalinath | Ardent devotee of Lord Shiva

Saint Dhudhalinath was born during the 18th century AD in a village in Gujarat in Koli community, which is regarded as a lower caste. He was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. Through his nice behaviour, he attracted the people, and lot of people become his disciples and followers. During his period, he was highly appreciated by the then kings and ministers, and his preaching was followed by the devotees of Lord Shiva.

Dhudhalinath is considered to be an incarnation of Bhairava, an aspect of Lord Shiva, and he lived a simple and a noble life. Though he was awarded lot of wealth by the kings, he rejected it, and began to take alms from the village people, and didn’t enjoyed any comforts and luxuries in his life. He also won in the debates held with various scholars and defeated them.

Dhudhalinath insisted the people to worship Lord Shiva in a whole heartedly manner. He worried about the sufferings of the people, and taught them easiest ways to reduce their sufferings. Through his mesmerising speech, and his divine beauty, all the devotees eagerly listened to his speech, and in course of time, their sufferings were also reduced in their lives.

Some of the important teachings are as follows:

1. In this Kali Yuga, bhakti alone would help the people to choose the correct way of life.

2. Lord Shiva is hearing the cries of all of his devotees, and he would remove their sufferings at the appropriate time.

3. Hinduism is a holy religion, and converting ourselves to other religions is not considered as a good act.

4. Our senses can be easily controlled by showing our selfless devotion on Lord Shiva.

5. Our life is short, within that period we have to do noble acts to please Lord Shiva.

6. Treat everyone as alike, and don’t show enmity on others.

7. Respect the elders, and take care of your parents properly.

8. Perform Shiva puja, chant the mantras, and sing songs in praise of Lord Shiva.

9. Rejoice in the glory of Lord Shiva.
