Cranes in Hinduism… Cranes are mentioned as lovely birds in our Hinduism, and ancient people used to worship a crane headed god, since they believes that the god would controls diseases, black magic, enemy related problems, and would give great courage, knowledge and withstanding powers to his devotees.
In Ramayana and Mahabharata, cranes are mentioned as heavenly birds. We should learn the patience from the crane, since they used to wait for a long time with its one leg, in order to catch the fishes from the lake. As per legend, it was mentioned that Ma Sati, the first avatar of Ma Parvati Devi, used to grow up cranes at the palace of her father, Lord Daksha Bhagavan, before getting married to Lord Shiva.
Cranes belongs to the family of swans and ducks, but cranes, contains more powers than that of them. Usually cranes would not harm humans, but if we try to disturb them, then they would bite us with its sharp nose.
In our Hinduism, Cranes represent the symbols of long life, prosperity, good luck and good health. It is also believed that there are few divine cranes, which resides in the heaven, as pet birds to Lord Indra Bhagavan. Some divine cranes are also available in the Divine worlds like Kubera Loka, Gandharva Loka, Vaikunta, Kailasha and in the Brahma Loka. Cranes also used as messengers by ancient kings and by the lovers for passing the messages from person to another.
Ancient queens and princesses used to keep cranes as pet birds on their palace lakes, and they also developed a strong personal bondage with them. It is also believed, that few of the wives of Lord Krishna, kept Cranes as pet birds in their palaces, and they are also accustomed to recite the name “KRISHNA”, “KRISHNA”, whenever Lord Krishna visits their place. Though it is prohibited to hunt birds like cranes, still some people used to hunt cranes, by giving some sort of mild poison mixed with rice, and after they consumes it, it would get fainted on the floor. During that time, the people would cut it, removes the flesh from its body, cook it and would consume it, by thinking that the flesh of the crane would give more strength to their body.
