Shree Chaamundeshwari Seva Samithi Shaaktamandal was started in 1968 and the temple was installed and consecrated on Jan 2, 1983 corresponding to Ananda Nama Samvatsara, Krishna Paksha Saptami in Pushya masam. Thousands of people thronged for the installation ceremony, though it was in the night.
Unlike other temples, Chamundeshwari Devi idol was first installed and then the construction of the temple was started. The idols of Brahmi Devi, Kaali Devi and Vaishnavi Devi are also installed in the temple along with Goddess Chamundeshwari Devi.
There is an important belief of devotees regarding the Goddess Chamundeshwari – those who circumambulate for eleven times around the temple without wiping the body after taking bath will be blessed with the powerful blessings of the Goddess.
The important festivals celebrated in Chitkul Temple are – Temple Varshikothsavam (Annual Festival), Navarathri Utsavam, Karthika Masam utsavam and Magha Masam. Chitkul Temple Varshikotsavam is held from Puhsya Bahula Panchami to Pushya Bahula Saptami.
