Chandra – Rohini Kalyanam | Divine Marriage of Moon God with Rohini Nakshatra

Chandra Rohini Kalyanam

Chandra Rohini Kalyanam

Chandra Bhagavan is the one who controls our mind, and based on our devotion, he would give peace of mind, and would control the bad thoughts in our mind. He would reduce the ill effects of the Chandra Dasa and would fill up with full of happiness on our mind. Chandra gives good health, wealth and all kinds of prosperity to us, and he is also considered to be the god of beauty, happiness and attraction. He would remove the heat from our body and would generate coolness to our body.

The famous Mantra of Lord Chandra is
“Om Shraam Shreem Shraum Sah Chandraya Namah”

Chandra is considered to be the close friend of Lord Indra, and he is believed to be the son of Rishi Atri and Anusuya, though in some Purana she was mentioned as a self-manifested one, who was formed at the time of churning of the divine ocean, Parkadal.

Lord Chandra had got married with Ma Rohini, the famous female star goddesses, and he also married her 26 star sisters also, who were the daughters of Lord Daksha Bhagavan, the mind born son of Lord Brahma.

Those who suffer from the bad effects of Chandra Dosha, are advised to visit and worship Thingalur Chandra Bhagavan Temple, which is situated some kilometres faraway from Kumbakonam. I have visited this famous temple on 10 February 2022, and there I had got the nice darshan of Lord Chandra, Lord Kailasanathar and Ma PeriyaNayaki Amman.

The marriage between Chandra and Rohini takes place before several millions of years, at the abode of Lord Chandra, the Chandra Mandala. During the time of marriage ceremony, all the celestial gods and goddesses were present, and with much happiness and delight, Lord Chandra tied the holy knot on the neck of Ma Rohini. All the Devas who present at the wedding hall, were showered fragrant flowers on to the newly wedded couple, and it was witnessed by sages like Atri, Anusuya, Bhrigu and by the Bhagavathas like Narada, Tumburu and Prahalada.

During ancient times, kings like Vikramaditya and Bhojaraja used to celebrate the marriage ceremony of Chandra and Ma Rohini in the temples of Lord Vishnu, and mostly it would be celebrated during the time of Chitra Pournami festival day. People used to sing the names of Chandra, and they would sincerely worship Lord Chandra and Ma Rohini for their well-being. But in course of time, the celebration of marriage ceremony of Chandra and Rohini in the temples were totally stopped, and the devotees of Chandra began to worship the superior gods like Shiva and Vishnu, and hence, the worship of Lord Chandra and Ma Rohini was almost stopped.

Lord Chandra would fructify the love affair of the lovers, and he would make them to lead a blessed married life. Lord Chandra is also a close associate to Lord Kama Deva, and both of them, unites the couple by inducing the sexual pleasures, and they would make their married life to go more strong, by increasing the sensations of the couple.

We can find a separate shrine of Lord Chandra in most of the Shiva Temples, and it is our main duty to worship him along with other deities, in order to bring good fortunes in our lives. Lord Chandra contains great powers, and he is also capable to slightly change our fate also, based on our faith and bhakti.
