Somarama Temple is located at Bhimavaram of West Godavari District, State of Andhra Pradesh, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Somarama Temple is also called as Someswara Temple and Bhimavaram. Somarama Temple is one of the Pancharama Kshetras (five temples), dedicated to Lord Shiva in Andhra Pradesh.
Somarama Temple was believed to be built during the 3rd century AD with a big Gopuram (monumental tower) in the entrance of the temple. The sacred Shivalingam at this temple is said to be installed by Lord Chandra, the moon god. And hence the temple is called as Somarama temple.
The religious history of the temple was that during Tarakasura vadha, it is said that the Shivalingam which was present on the throat of Tarakasura, a powerful asura, was divided into five pieces. And the place where the five pieces fell where the Pancharama Kshetras are built.
