Karmyog, Karmyogi, Bhakti

(9) Your right is only in performing karma, not in its fruits, not by any chance. Don’t be impelled by results of karma, don’t be drawn to withdraw from doing karma. Have equanimity of mind in pain-pleasure, go beyond duality, renounce fruits of karma. This is a mantra for nirvana.

(10) Attachment to objects drive the mind away as a boat by the wind. Attachment arises by pondering on objects of senses leading to desire & anger, delusion, then, fractured memory, and wisdom parishes, finally to destruction. Senses have attachment and aversion to their objects.

(11) Stable wisdom arises when one completely castoff desire, remains content within oneself, suffering does not perturb his mind and pleasure does not cause longing. Such a sage is free of attachment, fear, and anger. He withdraws his senses from objects just as the tortoise does limbs.

(12) Arjun was confused, he said if knowledge is superior to karma, why you tell me to engage in this fearful work. Kṛṣṇa responded that there are two paths to moksha – one of knowledge and one of karma. It is not possible to remain inactive without performing any karma, at all.

(13) Karma cannot be avoided by not initiating it nor by its renunciation. All beings are bound to do karma because of guna created by Prakriti. Even for the maintenance of the body, people must do karma. Don’t allow attachment of organs of karma to objects and prescribed karma.

(14) No work needs to be done for who delights in ātman, content with ātman. He has nothing to gain from work to be done or not to be done. He does not have an interest in anyone for his own. So, unattached, do work what is to be done. Work for the welfare of the entire humanity.

(15) Whatever best of people do, others conform to the standard set by them. Kṛṣṇa said, he had nothing to gain from this universe, but still, he works. Because if he doesn’t, people will follow his path and this (not doing anything) would ruin them.

(16) All karma is done by guna of Prakriti. Yet, a deluded, egoistic mind believes that he is the doer. But who understands the distinction between guna and karma, remains unattached, thinking guna act among guna. Surrender all karma to me and fight, Arjun.

(17) Lust, which also is anger, born out of rajas guna of Prakriti is the main culprit in driving people to sin. It conceals knowledge just as smoke obscures fire, dirt mirror, and embryo womb. It resides in the senses, heart, and mind. Control senses, control this enemy, lust.

(18) The nature of karma (action), inaction, and wrong action should be properly understood, for the nature of karma is very mystic. One who sees action in inaction and inaction in action, is a wise person, performer of all action.
