Batha Muhurta for Paryaya Festival in Udupi

Batha Muhurat for Paryaya Festival 2014 was held on 12th December 2013 at Udupi Ashta Math. As per the tradition, Sri Vidyavallabhatirtha Swamiji of Kaniyoor Math will ascend the Paryaya Peetha (Sarvajna Peetha) at the Sri Krishna Math on January 18, 2014.

This is Sri Vidyavallabhatirtha Swamiji’s second Paryaya. The Batha Muhurat is the last of a series of rituals of the Udupi Math.

During Batha Muhurat, the storage of rice, grains, vegetables and eatable items are stored in a Ugrana (storage place) for Annadana to lakhs of devotees during Paryaya Festival which will be celebrated in next year’s January.

Thousands of devotees from surrounding villages of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada district offered rice, coconuts, grains, vegetables, fruits, etc on this occasion to Kaniyoor Math which holds Paryaya from 2014 to 2016. This ritual is known as ‘Hore Kanike’.

Hore Kanike gifts will start coming to Kaniyoor Math from Batha Muhurta till the end of Paryaya Pattabhisheka.
