Annaprashana, Annaprasana Vidhi, Annaprasan, Annaprasanam or Annoprashan are the various names for Feeding first rice for baby. This ritual is celebrated on the occasion of child’s first intake of food other than milk.

During Annaprasana, elders and the parents of the child play a game with the child by giving him a tray containing a number of objects. It is believed that the child’s future prospects are indicated by his selection of choice of the objects.

The ceremony of  feeding solid food to a baby for the first time is called Annaprasana Samskara. This is advised to be performed in the 6th., 8th, or 10th months for boys and 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th months for girls, at an auspicious Muhurtha.

Apart from these common Panchanga shuddi checks, the general astrological quality based on the horoscope for the moment is also analysed. Also, the factors such as Solar and Lunar eclipses, Sankranti and Sandhyakalam  are  considered during the Muhurtha search.
