Akhand Teej

Akhand Teej is an auspicious vrat observed on Tritiya in Shukla Paksha in Vaishakh Month. In 2014, Akhand Teej date is May 2. In 2013, Akhand Teej date was May 13.

Akhand Teej is locally known as Akshaya Tritiya or Akha Teej among the Hindu and Jains. It falls in the pan-Indian month of Vaishakha, on the third Tithi (Lunar day) of Bright Half (Shukla Paksha).

According to the local legends, it is one of the four most important days for Hindus. On this particular day saint Veda Vyas and Lord Ganesha successfully began to write the great epic Mahabharata.

It is the birthday of Lord Parasurama (the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu). According to the Hindu religious scholars and pundits, the term Akshaya means “infinite that which never recede”. As per the Hindu and Jain traditional calendar, there are some days of the month which becomes totally absent or come extra in a calendar year but Akshay tritiya is one special day that never skips from the lunar Calendar.
