Is it a must in doing holy bath to the deities in the temples? This would be the question of some people, and some of them used to tell, “When plenty of poor children suffers from hungry, even without drinking a single cup of milk, then is it necessary to waste the milk by performing milk bath to the deities?”.
In general, we should never mix humanity with spirituality, even though, spirituality includes humanity also. In certain cases, if certain people suffer from starvation, then it is the duty of the god as well as the government to provide sufficient food to them. God cannot provide food directly to others, but, he would do it only with someone’s help! Even if we contain sufficient wealth, we could also feed sufficient quantity of food to the poor and the neglected ones.
God is entirely different from ordinary people like us. Though god doesn’t require anything from us, but by considering him as a supreme entity, it is our duty to show our great respects to him. By the way of doing holy bath to him, we are expressing our bhakti. It is also believed that by doing milk bath to the deities, rain would properly pour, crops would grow properly, infertile lands would become fertile etc.
Apart from doing holy bath to the deities in the temples, we must also perform puja and accept the holy Prasad offered by the temple priests. We can do Archanai also by telling our name, Gothram and Star or otherwise we could perform Archanai in the names of the deities.
During ancient times, nobody would question about the performance of the holy bath to the deities, but nowadays, some people who claim themselves, to be the true sons of the soil, comment about this, by considering them as the holiest persons in the world! Deities present in the temples must be treated as our well-wishers, parents and as our fore-fathers, since they knew better about us, rather than anyone in the world!Hence let us participate in the holy event of performing holy bath also known as Abhishekham to the deities, in order to prosper well in our lives.
