Ganesh Chaturthi festival, popularly known as Vinayagar Sathurthi, is celebrated with lot of gusto in Chennai & other parts of Tamil Nadu. The Government of Tamil Nadu and other state and city bodies have been working together to celebrate Vinayagar Chathurthi in eco friendly way.

It is to note that Vinayaga Chaturthi 2023 date is September 19. The Government will implement strict rules against Ganesh immersion and the management of Ganesha mandapa in Chennai. Ganesh immersion date for 2023 Vinayagar Sathurthi is September 28.

The Government of Tamil Nadu identified five places for Ganesh idol immersion in Chennai city. The idols will be allowed for immersion in the sea at Srinivasapuram in Pattinapakkam, Kasimedu fishing harbour and Tiruvottiyur in North Chennai and Palkalai Nagar in Neelankarai. The Ganapati idols of suburban areas of Chennai will be allowed for immersion at Ramakrishna Nagar in Ennore.

As per the guidelines of the Government to Ganesha Utsava committees, the Ganesh idols should not be more than 11-feet in height and should be prepared with eco-friendly or natural material. They also instructed that immersion of idol should be done 500 meters inside the sea.
