Vedapureeswarar Temple, Pondicherry

Sri Vedapureeswarar temple is based in the heart of the town of Pondicherry in the state of Pondicherry in Southern India. The main deity of this temple is Vedapureeswarar (Lord Shiva) and his consort is Tripurasundari. The holy tree of this temple is Vanni. The holy water of this temple is Brahmma theertham.

The agamam or pooja of this temple is known as Kameeyam. This temple is nearly 500 years old in this region. The historical name of this holy place is Vedapuri.

The main festivals of this temple are Maha Sivarathiri, Deepavalli, Pongal, New Year day, Navarathri, Aippasi Annabhishekam, Markali Tiruvaathirai and other Lord Shiva related festivals in this particular temple. The shrine remains open for devotees and pilgrims from early morning to mid- noon and later in the late evening to dusk.

It is the most sought after ancient Shiva temple in the district and south India. The temple’s Specialty is that the Lord is Swayambumurthy in the temple.

It is the most sought after temple in the state of Pondicherry. It is also the most visited shrine in this particular region. Special pujas and rituals are conducted in this temple on the day of Shivarathri that is witnessed by devotees and pilgrims. According to the local legends, this temple is wish fulfiller shrine among the devotees, pilgrims and local residents. Many people visit this shrine for early marriage without any obstacles, early child boon, higher education and better professional and personal life. Thanks giving pujas and rituals are also performed in this shrine.
