Varuthini Ekadashi Vrat Katha, Story

Varudhini Ekadasi, is an auspicious Ekadasi vrat observed on Krishna Paksha in Vaishakh month as per North Indian Hindi calendars. It coincides with Krishna Paksha Ekadashi of Chaitra month as per Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati, and Marathi Panchangams.

Varudhini Ekadashi Vrat Katha…. Shri Yudhishthira Maharaj offering obeisance to Lord Vasudeva asked to describe the merits and influence about Ekadashi taking place during the dark fortnight of Vaishaka month [April-May].

Lord Krishna replied to the king and described Varuthini Ekadashi as the most propitious besides noble taking place during the dark fortnight of Vaishaka and those observing total fast on this auspicious day will have their sins annulled, achieve uninterrupted bliss besides superior destiny, unfortunate women becoming fortunate besides conferring life’s substantial pleasure and freedom from the desolation of continued reincarnation after the demise.

King Mandhata besides many other kings like Dhundhumara obtained freedom from the sins and the curses imposed by Lords on fasting on this Ekadashi which has also helped to perform sternness besides sacraments for centuries. Fasting on this Ekadashi is considered equivalent to  donating huge cache of gold at Kurukshetra  on a solar eclipse day giving rise to pure besides stimulating life and destroy all sins.

Better than donating items like horses, lands, etc., giving   gold and food grains to ancestors, devas besides human beings are incomparable to anything. The Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Shree Krishna said educating holy awareness is the best charity over anything and this merit can be achieved by fasting on the Varuthini Ekadashi.

On the 10th phase of the moon and on the day called Dashami prior to Ekadashi, one should avoid eating on bell-metal plates, items prone to create unhealthy activities, taking food in other’s homes, etc. One should also give up every life’s pleasure besides anger and hatred on this day besides on the day following that is Dwadasi.
