Vajreshwari Devi (also known as Vajrabai) is a powerful and revered manifestation of Goddess Parvati / Adi Shakti. Her primary temple is situated in Vajreshwari town, along the banks of the Tansa River in the Bhiwandi taluka of Thane district, Maharashtra.
Significance & History
Vajreshwari Devi is closely associated with Vajrayogini. According to legend, the Goddess manifested in this form—unyielding and radiant as a thunderbolt (vajra)—to slay the demon Kalikut and protect the gods and sages.
The Vajreshwari Temple
Located atop the Mandagiri hillock, the shrine resembles a fortified structure. Peshwa general Chimaji Appa renovated and expanded this temple in the 18th century as a vow of gratitude following his victory in the Battle of Vasai.
Natural Hot Springs
The surrounding area, including nearby Akloli, is famous for its natural sulfur-rich hot water springs (kundas), believed to possess medicinal and curative properties for skin ailments.
Festivals
Large fairs and celebrations take place during both Chaitra Navratri and Ashwin Navratri, attracting thousands of devotees.
