Vaitheeswaran Koil, Mayiladuthurai, Tamil Nadu

Vaitheeswaran Koil is a sacred temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Tamil Nadu. In this temple, Lord Shiva is worshipped as Vaidyanathar or Vaitheeswaran meaning the “God of healing” and it is believed that by praying to Vaitheeswaran, our all types of physical and mental diseases will be cured. The presiding deity is Sri Vaidyanathan.

The village is also known for palm leaf astrology called Naadi astrology in Tamil. It is located 7 kilometers from Sirkazhi, 235 kilometers from Chennai, 27 km from Chidambaram, 110 km from Thanjavur and 16 km from Mayiladuthurai.

It is one of the nine Navagraha temples and is associated with the planet Mars (Angaraka). The village is also specialized for reading palm leaf astrology called Naadi astrology in Tamil. By taking a holy dip in the temple tank will cure us from all types of diseases. In this temple, free annadanam is provided for more than 100 devotees on a daily basis.

Shivarathri festival is grandly celebrated at this temple. By chanting the “OM NAMAH SHIVAYA”, mantra at this temple, all of our unwanted and bad thoughts would be removed from our mind, and we would get spiritual energy.

The temple is praised by the Nayanar saints and it is also classified as a Paadal Petra Sthalam. It is believed that Lord Rama and Lakshmana also worshipped Lord Shiva in this temple.
