For getting a wonderful spiritual experience we could visit the powerful Madapuram Bathra Kaliamman temple which is located some kms distance faraway from Madurai. The main deity here is Goddess Bathra Kali and the temple tree is Neem, and this temple is an ancient temple which is believed to have been constructed before 500 to 1000 years! This pleasant and peaceful temple is situated in Madapuram in Sivagangai district.
It is believed that, the Goddesses here brings all kind of glory to her devotees, and she is powerful enough to remove the black magic and evil spirit that has been with the devotees. She is also the Goddesses of prosperity, and so even rich people worship here, to make their business flourish further. The ones who had lost their money or been robbed, will cut the coins in front of Kali, to get their money back.
Bhadrakali amman is known for her powerful nature, she is a good guardian and acts like our own mother. In this temple, she is adorned with fire crown denoting her temper, and she appears to be very furious ready to contrll the evil at any time.
There is also an Ayyanar effigy along with his horse which acts as the safe haven for Bathra Kaliamman and shield her from sun and rain. Ergo the Ayyanar is named as Adaikalam Kaatha Ayyanar. Usually Ayyanar is found riding on the horses, but here on contrary he is in a standing posture. There is a belief that, the uttering Madapuram Kali Amman’s name will destroy all the evils.
Fridays are special days, where devotees offer special poojas.
Full moon days are special and during full moon night, special pooja is offered with milk bath for the goddess.
During The first Tuesday, special pooja is offered, called as lamp pooja. To pacify the fury of the goddess, devotees offer garlands made out of lemon fruits. They also offer Sarees to the goddess.
The temple is kept open from 6 AM to 11 AM and 4 PM till 8 PM.
