The Importance of observing fast during Vaikuntha Ekadashi is mentioned in the Puranas. According to legend, once, when the great demon Murasura fights with Lord Vishnu, a female form emerged from the body of Lord Vishnu, and burnt Murasura into ashes with her powers. Lord Vishnu, was very much satisfied with the female form, and he named the goddess as ‘Ekadashi’ and blessed her with the boon that those people who observe fast during the Ekadashi day would be relieved from their sins, and those who observe fasting on Vaikunta Ekadashi day, would attain Vaikunta.
Based on this story, it is true that the devotees would definitely reach Vaikunta, when they observe strict fasting and perform meditation on Lord Vishnu especially during the Vaikunta Ekadashi day.
Vaikuntha Ekadashi fasting is an important aspect and devotees would fast in the morning and in the night and offers prayers to Lord Vishnu. Fasting on all Ekadashi days would give us good physical and mental energy and would remove our past birth sins and we would get greater mental satisfaction in our life.
In Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, Srirangam and in Tirupati Venkatachalapathy Temple, Vaikuntha Ekadashi celebrations would be done in a good manner, and lot of devotees would visit the temples during the night of Vaikunda ekadasi day and have the darshan of the great god Vishnu, and the entire night they would spent their time by worshipping the god and chanting his names and thinking about his glories.
Hence let us observe fasting during Vaikunta Ekadashi day and be blessed.
